yapcut is built so your video never leaves your Mac. This page lists everything that does, where it goes and why.
What stays on your Mac
- Your video files, and every cut yapcut renders from them.
- The CapCut drafts yapcut reads for your style and the drafts it writes.
- Your style profile: caption, title and pacing settings learned from your edits.
What yapcut sends
For each video, yapcut sends its server:
- The audio, converted to a small mono file of a few megabytes.
- The script you pasted.
- Your Editing Guide, the notes you write about how you like to be cut.
- The edit list: which words to keep, as positions in the transcript.
Everything travels over HTTPS. Nothing else about you or your Mac is sent.
Who handles it
- Cloudflare runs yapcut’s server and hosts this website.
- AssemblyAI turns the audio into a transcript with word timings.
- Twilio sends sign-in codes by text, when you choose that.
- When the editing assistant is on, an AI model provider receives the transcript, your script and your Editing Guide to suggest better cuts. It never receives the audio or the video.
How long it’s kept
yapcut stores the audio and its transcript under a fingerprint of the audio, so the same recording is never transcribed twice. They don’t expire. The script, Editing Guide and edit list are kept with the job that used them.
Your account
To sign in, yapcut keeps only what that way of signing in needs:
- With TikTok: your TikTok account’s id for yapcut, and your display name and profile picture, shown only to you. yapcut asks TikTok for nothing else and keeps no TikTok access.
- With Apple: your Apple account’s id for yapcut, and the email Apple shares.
- With an email code: your email address.
- With a text code: your phone number, stored encrypted. Texts are sent by Twilio.
- The Macs you’ve signed in on, by the name each Mac gives itself.
None of this goes into usage data, which is tied to random ids only. Signing a Mac out ends its access at once.
